When the Spirit Speaks

During a Bible study the ladies discussed what held them back from witnessing, evangelizing and testifying about the Lord. Generally speaking, they seemed to agree it was their lack of knowledge and the fear that they could not respond if they were asked questions. Many of these ladies have been Christians for decades. My sense is they not only underestimate themselves, but also the Spirit living within them. I’m reminded of Stephen who was known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom and who was one of seven men chosen to oversee the daily distribution of food. “Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia. These men began to argue with Stephen, but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke” (Acts 6:8-10 NIV).
