Ah-Hah
I love joining in a Biblical conversation where everyone is able to converse knowledgably on the subject at hand. Obviously we don’t all feel comfortable in theological discussions, but most of us can discuss the basic Bible stories we’ve learned in Sunday School. I think however, that we often avoid these well known stories because they’ve been so beaten to death that we figure there’s not any new gems left for adults to discover. The other day the fortune in my fortune cookie read, “No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he only had good intentions.” Ah-Hah!

-----There is no end to the knowledge, insights, and wisdom in the storehouses of the Bible. From the historical settings of the Bible stories to the idiosyncrasies of their cultural environment to the grammatical idioms and terminology of the text there are deep mines of factual information that is all the raw material for meaning and perspective. The simple human nature of the stories’ characters adds to the different possibilities the material can be mixed and shaped. And, as you have pointed out, when you have thought the storehouse has been emptied, you find it still full as the whisperings from between the lines become audible from consideration given to everything the characters could have done but did not do.
