Blood Cry
Recently there was a report of a medical facility worker who couldn’t
bring herself to destroy aborted fetuses so she preserved them in jars. One has
to consider the reaction of women in the area who had abortions, believed that
their deed was simply past-history and now have to wonder if one of those
children sitting on a shelf all these years is their child. I thought of Cain
killing his brother Abel. Even though Able was dead, his blood continued to be
heard. “The LORD said, “What have you done?
Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.” (Gen 4:10
NIV)

-----The truth is like some kind of magic recording tape. What is done gets recorded. Whether the aborted children are preserved or destroyed, the deed is done, the deed is recorded. The blood of Abel crying out from the ground was merely a personification of this way truth works. All lies can be told about the deed, and everyone can believe anything, yet the doing of the deed remains etched onto an abiding fabric to be read by the Judge.
-----Blood again becomes the topic when Noah has left the ark. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed.” (Gen 9:6) Before the flood, God placed a mark on Cain that he would be avenged seven-fold should anyone harm him for having murdered Abel. And so Lamech, Cain’s great, great, great grandson, bragged to his wives that he would be avenged seventy times seven should anyone harm him for the man he had killed. But a rather abrupt change in human history by the Flood brought a new responsibility to man - the keeping of law close to the truth. Anything shedding the blood of man must have its blood shed by man.
-----That there are abortions today is not the point of trouble for those who love the truth. People have been murdering their unborn children throughout history. They have even been murdering their newborn children with the same exoneration Cain and Lamech enjoyed. The point of trouble is that a government founded on the principles of the True God in whom its people claim to believe should find a wily way for throwing off any legal restraints against murdering the unborn by playing games with its people’s vocabulary. Thus abort speaks enough to the end of something without actually drawing attention to the fact it is murder being done. And fetus speaks enough to its prey without drawing attention to the fact it is the living being of another human. Thus by lies the responsibility given to man as Noah left the ark is shirked by the very government instituted so men could have freedom worship the God who gave those responsibilities. That’s what troubles those who love the truth.
-----The testimony against this government needs not enough jars to store fifty million murdered humans. The testimony was etched into truth as each soul was taken. On the day of judgment truth will playback with more faithfulness than Memorex can boast. Of course, with the same faithfulness the recorder’s caught a few other things for playback, too. No righting of our blown past can be done now or then. All we can do is desire right and look to Jesus for taking us to it.
