American Pickers

I enjoy watching American Pickers, a TV show where Mike and Frank travel across the country picking through peoples treasures trying to buy pieces for their antique shop in LeClaire, Iowa. On a recent episode in the south they came across a man who had a collection of over 50 VW busses on acreage behind his house. As the pickers wandered through the graveyard of neatly positioned busses, not one bus appeared intact. All of them, exposed to the elements, had rusted bodies, dilapidated doors and broken windows. The busses were not only the habitat for birds and small rodents, but trees and weeds were also taking up residence growing up, around and through the vehicles. What a great visual for believers. Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt 6:19-21 NIV)

Gail;

-----For the case of this VW bus collector, Jesus maybe should have added, “By the way, if you do store up treasure, make sure it isn’t junk.” But “junk” is relative, I guess. Someone once told me that since God’s splendid New Jerusalem will be paved with gold, we here on earth raise a lot of fuss and bickering over pavement (think about it.)

Love you all,
