Memorial Day

“…Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb…” (John 20:11 NIV) Today we too have the opportunity to look into the tombs of those who’ve shed their blood for America’.

Gail;
-----Mary and we both stand at the tombs of heroes who defended freedom. But we stand at tombs that remain full of bones, properly knowing those bones are still there. But Mary stood at an empty tomb. And if all the disciples had thought carefully upon what Jesus had been telling them in the weeks leading up to His death, Mary would have gone rejoicing to His tomb to see its emptiness.
----And one more difference. One more sad difference. Mary found a tomb emptied of its content that once for all freed her from her enemy of death through sin. That battle need not be fought again, because Jesus’ fight was eternally effective. But we go to tombs filled with heroes who died defending freedom after tombs were beforehand filled with heroes having died defending freedom after others died even before them defending freedom. Do we walk away from those tombs really believing that freedom has been defended? How quickly we shall loose it!
-----I am nervous about the edge of tyranny to which our great land has now come. For thirty-six years we have terrorized our children even before they have been born, calling it their mother’s health. Yet, because some unusual frog or mouse or gnat might die by our mere existence, jobs, businesses, and homes have been taken from our brothers and sisters. Our own government has regulated away the opportunity to access and refine our own oil we desperately need for survival. Rather we are told we must change our lifestyles, eat local, pedal bicycles, and hope there’s enough wind to generate the electricity needed to power the nutshell we will be living within. All to assuage the fears of those who are unwilling to examine any ideas different from their own. Because we send too much water on to the oceans in its great circle of flow, we have to suffer barely-flush toilets by threat of the law. Because some are afraid of the natural weather patterns, incandescent light bulbs will be illegal in four years. Our universities have passed out pamphlets enumerating words not allowed to be spoken on campus, but not the four letter kind. In public sight, “progressives” have castigated good men and women over their stands for individual freedom and responsibility. And they have with the other hand held open our borders for anyone who wants to cross for any reason. They have torn any expression of God from our tax supported schools, terrorizing children and teachers alike with penalty of law for any violation of their own violation of the first amendment. Then they fill the children full of fear for the very things that make life secure: moral responsibility, hard effort in a vibrant, capitalistic economy, and faith in an active, loving God. They fear what makes us free, for it destroys their control.
-----Yes, friends and neighbors, brothers and sisters, as we walk away from the tombs of the defenders of our freedom, we must realize that we, too, each one of us, must become defenders of our freedom. Only a few years ago we thought we had placed men and women into positions who would finally gird up again the strength of America. But we were fooled. We have but one last chance to win back and extend to our children the freedom we remember from better days. Prayer alone will no longer do. It is now time to add, also, the effort of our hands. Glean the truth from the Word and voice your convictions everywhere. Join the blogs, write to the editors, to your representatives, to those feeding us trash in the media, and to those paying for that trash with their advertising dollar. Express your disdain for what is destroying us. Express your knowledge of the truth and of the multitudes of others who also know the truth. Express the anger of us all over the deceit that has been escorted into our homeland. No longer stand for it!
-----Now go from the tombs of the heroes and stand against it like the heroes you will become.

Love your Lord, and love your country,
Steve Corey
