Placeholder
Citing family concerns a pseudo-candidate for the local County
Commissioner race in November just dropped out. His decision to withdraw is no
surprise. It has been obvious from the beginning that his candidacy was merely
a placeholder for another politician who needed more time to set the stage and
test the political waters before entering the race. Unfortunately in the church
we occasionally see a similar bit of maneuvering. There are those whose lives
have never been invested in the Lord, yet they are depending on someone or some
circumstance to hold their place in line at the pearly gates. My life on earth
is the only opportunity to choose whether I will stand at the right or the left
hand of God. “Then the King will say to
those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your
inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.”
(Matt 25:34 NIV)

-----You’re right; our time on earth is the only opportunity we have to choose a stand with the Lord. But a couple Biblical truths must be admitted. Our spirits are made alive in Him, and I believe perfected, too, since His Spirit takes up dwelling in us. Imperfection can not be alive, which is why our bodies and minds do not yet exist in an eternal condition. Don’t get me wrong. Our minds are being renewed such that we are being changed from one degree of glory to another by His Spirit. But these very facts also bespeak the truth that our minds are not fully made alive while we live in these temporal tents. Then the faultiness yet remaining within us is our lack of full investment. And how much lack spoils the whole operation of His saving grace? Most all? Just some? A tiny bit? Since we are saved by faith and since that faith is measured to each of us at God’s choosing, some are more fully invested in their new lives than others, yet all are saved. Thankfully this is why salvation is His response to our choosing Him and comes to us because of our faith. The righteousness we do is insufficient. The righteousness we are is completely His reckoned to us, which is His standing in line for us at the Pearly gates. Right now that line of all people who will enter heaven but are still alive in the flesh is only one person long.
