God’s Gift

I watched my grandchildren, ages 9 & 7, open their age and interest appropriate Christmas gifts – $15 in one dollar bills, Lego blocks, Polly Pocket doll, and books. I wonder what they, or we adults for that matter, would have thought if we had received gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. I can envision some of us investing the gold and re-gifting the frankincense and myrrh. It is not uncommon for people to sometimes receive a gift that they really don’t know what to do with…even the gift of Jesus Christ.

Gail;

-----I am glad the gift of Jesus is mostly made of grace and mercy. Our knowledge is mostly lacking in regards to all that can be known. We learn a number of good behaviors and righteous actions and thoughts towards one another, but even then, all the goodness we can be is mostly lacking. No wonder the things we are really good at come by gift of the Spirit. Moreover, the New Testament is replete with instructions dealing with how the strong in the Lord should care for the weak, indicating the fact that many folks who are known by the Lord - accepted by Him and made alive - are very lacking in knowledge and behavior. Even we who are strong are well advised to give realistic awareness to how truly weak our own strength is and that much of what the strong do in the Lord isn’t done by having known what to do as much as by having felt what to do. I think the reason hope is so important is because we know so little about the gift of Christ which we received only by grace.

Love you all,
