Coming Soon

One of our church families, like many across the US, is going through foreclosure. Because there was only four days between the formal foreclosure notice and the sale of the property, an urgent prayer request was sent out about their immediate needs. The request also included the caveat, “The foreclosure wasn’t a surprise; it was how soon it was taking place.” It’s interesting that many of us are impatient for the Lord’s return and we wonder what is taking so long. And then there are others of us who will be surprised that His coming came so soon. “You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Luke 12:40 NIV)

Gail;

-----I’ve observed that the intensity with which one longs for the immediate return of the Lord is directly proportional to his level of debt. This world has no end of troubles in its present state, but debt seems to be the more vexing. And the most vexing form of it is that which hangs over from a failed business or some other situation wherein nothing has been actually acquired by it except an obligation to fork out money to a stranger for years beyond the foreseeable future. I’ve also observed the great emotional relief of those who’ve completed bankruptcy processes to the increased distress of their creditors.
-----It’s like difficulty in this world is water. It may pour out of your hand into someone else‘s, or it may evaporate into the air, but it never vanishes from existence. It merely changes form until the activities of man and nature condense it into another pool of trouble at a different time and place. Eventually, most everyone plummets into an emotional abyss wherein they rue the day they were born or envy babies aborted before they had an ability to remember the pain of it.
-----Registering the pain of ill effects is not evil, nor is longing for the annihilation of ill effects at the Lord’s return. But ill effect is piled upon ill effect when one fails to realize what an unique situation we are encountering. Once the Lord returns, never again will there be an opportunity to stand strong for God’s truth amongst all the pains of a world gone awry, all the tragedy of bodily nourishment from bodily destruction (the lion upon the gazelle, man upon the cow), the thievery amongst our fellows and treachery from our own government encouraging the very thievery it is meant to punish. Never again will there be an opportunity to find joy in spite of so much gone wrong, to bless the Lord through a fat lip and observe His love and righteousness through a black eye.
-----OK, Lord. Been there done that. Now let’s get outta here!

Love you all,
Steve Corey
