Expiration Date

Last Sunday my friend Harry came to church sporting a red boutonniere, which was in recognition of his 97th Birthday. While we talked about his good health and longevity he said, “I’ll tell you something better than that…I just got my driver’s license renewed and now I can drive until I’m 102!” I had to laugh. Most of our elderly folks are worried that someone will take away their car keys and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) just handed Harry the keys to heaven on earth. “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12 NIV)

Gail;

-----To rightly number our days so that we gain a heart of wisdom is from a prayer ascribed to Moses. He began this prayer acknowledging that God’s people have lived in Him throughout their generations, while God has churned each back into the dust, each being almost meaningless spots of time upon His eternal fabric, each incurring His wrath for the sins its short eighty years generate. The wisdom of rightly numbered days comes not from numbering twenty-nine thousand two hundred days. It comes from counting also that eternal number of days gained by committing to whatever He shows is the path for living those days, a path distinguishable by the satisfaction of His steadfast love, the visibility of His works and power, and the blessing of our labors while upon it.

Love you all,
