Life Support

The longer a blog is in existence and as reader activity increases, the more susceptible that blog is to SPAM. Interestingly the Spammers I hear from are getting more sophisticated and are now using a more conversational tone in order to get me to link to their website. One recent blog comment that came in read, And I actually do have some questions for you if it's allright. Is it just me or does it appear like some of these comments appear as if they are coming from brain dead folks?” I had to smile because Steve Corey is the only person who consistently comments on my blog. People of the world are easily confused when they encounter believers. They assume we are brain dead, when in reality we’re simply on Spiritual Life support.

Gail;

-----Spiritual Life support! I like that. Not long ago, I announced to Char, “Sweetie! It just struck me today, zombies really do exist! And I’m not kidding. They're real!” When she bit the hook I told her that man truly died when Eve bit the “apple” just like God said he would. Man’s contact with God was separated. That is what death is - separation. The body dies as life processes separate from the interactions of its physical elements. Some of these processes take longer than others to separate. Therefore, the hair, beards, fingernails, and toenails of the dead continue to grow for a spell. As far as man sees it, the most distinguishing separation of death, though, is the spirit from the body. It, in fact, is death’s marker, as we term death. But the most fundamental separation is the spirit from God. That is the separation which happened with Adam and Eve’s disobedience.
-----If you think about life, it is more than the biological processes occurring within a highly organized set of compounds and elements. Sure, that is physical life, and even plants have it. But other processes are at operation as well. These are processes between independent organisms. Each organism can be said to be alive, and is living, as long as other organisms live, too. But allow all organisms, down to the very last one, to die, and the last one also will die shortly. It’s life processes depend upon benefits extending from the others. Without them, whatever this organism is, it is toast. No more benefit, no more life!
-----I like the word “benefit”. It’s nice and neutral. And it is simply descriptive of a fundamental condition - the fulfillment for a need. Of course, the need must be what it is, and the fulfillment must also be what it is: what actually does completely satisfy the need’s own requirements, e.i. true. Truth and benefit must both be operative for the process of life to move forward. And if there were conceptually only truth and benefit, the processes would not stop. Unfortunately, we are given into a world corrupted by the obverses of truth and benefit - deceit and detriment. Their interplay brings death.
-----This is how I’ve come to describe life of the physical bodies, living though dead. But if you think about the purest sense of “benefit”, you realize it is the sense of doing complete and precise good, only. That is the same, purest sense of love. My heart fills with reverent joy when I think of the Bible’s often references to God as “love”. That is precisely what God is to all He has created, the fulfillment of every need perfectly. The process in which all things move and have their life is God. Then my head fills with reverential wonder at the Bible’s constant reference to Jesus as “The Truth”. Separate from Him, though there appears to be life, destruction is inevitable, actual death. At last, with the statement lived into the world by God living amongst us as a man - love moving amongst us in its truth - the deceit and detriment taken seed and well grown into mankind can, merely upon our individual calls for help, be relegated to the body alone, while the Spirit of God enters us and makes our very spirits come to life! Zombies no more! Hallelujah! I’m a zombie no more! For our spirits have been recombined with that eternal process of life - the love and truth that are God and Christ.
-----Now, unfortunately, the brain is yet a part of the body. Though I have been made alive (on Life Support, as you say) I am yet, as your Spammer described, brain dead. But at least I’m not a brain dead Spammer!

Love you all,
Steve Corey
