Common Denominator

I’ll admit that I have a few family members with whom I wouldn’t be friends if it weren’t for the fact that we were related by blood. The same can be said relationships in the church. If we weren’t related to one another by the blood of Jesus, some of us wouldn’t be friends. However, Jesus doesn’t always bring people together. In some cases not only does He cause division (Matt. 10:35-36), but He also creates relationships that are strange bedfellows. For instance when Jesus was brought before Pilate and handed over to be crucified scripture says, “That day Herod and Pilate became friends—before this they had been enemies.” (Luke 23:12 NIV) Whether for unity or division, Jesus is the common denominator.

Gail;
----Our unity is in our participation in the mind of Christ. Many have then gone looking for this doctrine or that practise which represents the mind of Christ. Some of those have found one thing, others have found another thing, and together they have created division in claiming that what each has found has "been given them by God" and is indeed the mind of Christ.
----The reason Jesus was so successful in quickly and certainly stopping the mouths of the plotting scribes and Pharasees is because He stuck to the simple basic truth. He brought us the simple, basic truth for our salvation. That truth need be no more complicated than that the Destroyer's principle is self, while the Son of God's principle is others. The mind of Satan is attention to self however one wishes to think. The mind of Christ is attention to others from a humble receptiveness to the truth.
----Our unity is in holding on to one another by our attention to one another no matter what our differences. Unity does not look to me, it looks to you.
