As One Escaping
The media coverage on the tornado that struck Moore, OK is riveting.
Homes leveled, cars totaled and personal possessions strewn for miles. Many who
emerge from storm shelters will have escaped with only the clothes on their
backs. Translating the images into a spiritual context gives me a vivid picture
of what takes place when our earthly works are tested. “If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If
it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one
escaping through the flames.” (1 Cor 3:14-15 NIV)

-----I consider I Cor 3:10-15 is maybe the most revealing scripture regarding the interrelationship between our temporal lives and our passing into eternal existence. Of course, it is by God’s grace and mercy that any man who has so much as one works burnt up still enters the eternal blessing. And by the escape of the man whose entire works were burnt up, we see that entrance into that bliss is not at all by works.
-----You make good metaphor of that reality. These twisters destroyed the estates of many folks regardless of how much good or bad they had done. On the other side of the destruction is a life left wherein, for at least a short spell, detachment from the normal responsibilities and duties towards the keeping of a good estate is replaced completely by duties and responsibilities of helping one another.
