Don't Rock the Boat

Have you ever wondered what became of Matthias? After his short introduction of being chosen by lot to replace Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:23-24) we never hear from him again. Did he get busy with his career? Was he ineffective in his position? Did the other apostles fail to fully accept him? Since we really don’t know, it’s anyone’s guess. Our church has lost some elders, both past and current, and most people in the congregation don’t even know they’re gone…much less what has become of them. It’s amazing that these men are slipping out of the boat and swimming away without so much as a ripple. No doubt our current leadership is breathing a collective sigh of relief because the boat wasn’t rocked when these elders resigned. I understand one of the elders has been spotted attending another church. Since he’s a man of integrity, I assume he has resigned his position with my church…I’m just glad to know he didn’t go under.

Gail;
-----”…without a ripple…” Good analogy. Fellowship is like a pool of water. All the molecules are of the same nature, but in the presence of a source of warmth they vary in temperature. If each molecule is left to interact freely with those around it, then there will be calm stirrings within the body. As long as the heat source is available, the warmer molecules will be able to spread their warmth to the cooler ones, and the whole pool will progressively warm.
-----But when church leaders seek to conquer and control all the molecules in the pond, the natural stirring caused by the heat source is interrupted, and the heat sharing begins to fail. According to the leaders’ book of Hoyle, all the molecules have a defined roll to play in the pond and the leaders are there to make sure they stay in their places. So, as they all hold tight to their defined rolls, no longer stirred naturally by the heat, they become bonded to only those next to them, sharing only the philosophies supplied to them. This state is known as a crystalline lattice. Then the selfish ambitions of the leaders, the high regard for their own philosophies, begins to insulate the heat source from the individual molecules. If nothing is done about these circumstances the pond will turn to ice. And ice does not ripple. It is not swam in. It is walked around, and left behind.
