Stephen
spoke to the Sanhedrin, “When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their
teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked
up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of
God.” The mob then attacked Stephen, “While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive
my spirit” (Acts 7:54-55, 59-60a NIV). It occurs to me that at
the moment of a believer’s death it is not only his spirit, but it is the Holy
Spirit living within him, that returns to the Lord Jesus.”
